Beyond the physical, honoring the energy body

Updated: 5 days ago

“Prāṇa is Spandana or vibration. When all this universe shall have resolved back into its primal state, what becomes of this infinite force? Do they think that it becomes extinct? Of course, not. If it became extinct, what would be the cause of the next wave, because the motion is going in wave forms, rising, falling, rising again, falling again?”

Swami Vivekananda,

Yoga's essence spans five dimensions: physical, energetic, mental, wise, and blissful. At Ray of light we engage in Sarva anga sādhanam, a holistic approach, melds yoga, Ayurveda, and Sanskrit for comprehensive growth. This approach aims to balance prāṇa, the vital energy permeating all life, enhancing overall health.

By embracing yoga's true spirit, we seek to revitalize and clarify its teachings within the community. This approach fosters a deeper understanding of yoga's multifaceted nature, moving beyond mere physical postures. It invites practitioners to explore the subtle realms of energy and consciousness.

Immerse yourself in yoga's transformative power.

Through practice we can nourish and balance five divisions of prāṇa, our inner winds. Some functions of our inner winds include;

Prāṇa vāyu or that which goes everywhere, responsible for reception or input, input of breath, food and sensory input. With a focus on potentiating our inhalation and enlivening our energy system.

Samāna vāyu - equalising wind or that which takes what is required to where it is required, responsible for distributing nourishment - balance, digestion. Metabolic endurance for the whole body.

Udāna vāyu or that which leads up, is responsible for our ability to speak, our ability to move and power of speech parā vāk the goddess of the supreme word.

Vyāna vāyu or that which makes things distinct, is responsible for sensation, lifting, grasping, and throwing. Distribution of nutrients, movement of limbs, sensations in extremities.

Apāna vāyu - or that which takes awareness, responsible for elimination, what should be eliminated, what should not be eliminated, and when to eliminate. Bound emotions, squelched feelings, our ability to let go.
