Practice & info session with Rachel & Flo

Access our information package, practice and informations session recording below.

The Energy Body

According to the Vedas, we are composed of more than just a physical body. There are five distinct layers, from gross to subtle. One of these is the Prāṇamaya, the Subtle or Energy Body. Made up of the Pañcha Vāyu (five pranas/energies), the chakras (energy centers), and Nāḍīs (energy channels), this layer of our being can be strengthened, cleansed, and awakened through the use of curated ancient yogic practices, including āsana, meditations, visualizations, mantra, and specific breathing techniques. When the energy channels are open, the Vāyus balanced, and the chakras ripe for awakening, we have good health and clear perception, which evolves our consciousness and begins to inhabit Buddhi, the higher mind. During this in-depth practice and study retreat, we will explore ourselves at a deeper level than the purely physical body. When we connect with Prāṇamaya, the Energy Body, we have the power to create profound transformation and significant change.

THE FLOW

Morning Practice

Morning practice will be delivered alternately by Flo and Rachel. In these practices, we will explore each of the Pañca Prāṇas in turn, and using meditation, chanting, prāṇāyāma, and āsana, we will begin our days with an awakening at a profound and subtle level.

Flo’s teaching style is energizing and strength building. She offers options in almost all postures, encouraging you to find your perfect level and avoid strain, however, there is the opportunity to take your practice further with stronger and more advanced postures for those who wish.

Rachel's teaching style is meditative and invokes sweetness. You are encouraged to turn inward and make choices within the practice that support indivudation within the group context. Rachel‘s classes include chanting, devotion and storytelling.

Afternoon Practice

The afternoon sessions will be more introspective, embracing some of the more esoteric practices, download the infomation package for a full description. As we delve into the subtle layers of our being, we will create a sanctuary for deep relaxation and self-discovery. Through these practices, you will explore the rich tapestry of your inner world, uncovering hidden insights and nurturing a sense of peace and wholeness.

Every other day, you will be guided into your deep unconscious by Flo. Through her gentle guidance, you will delve into a state of deep relaxation. Yoga Nidra, often referred to as "yogic sleep," allows you to access a deeper layer of consciousness where true healing and transformation occur. Flo will guide yoga therapy workshops focusing on safe practices, anxiety and skillful teaching. Continue to read Flo's full list of workshop topics below.

Revise your connection and raise your vibration with the sacred language of Yoga with Rachel. We will delve into the profound world of Vedic chanting and Sanskrit. You will learn to chant the vowels that symbolize the twelve phases of the moon and the consonants as a personal practice. Gain a deeper understanding of the importance of specificity, including mouth positions and aspiration. We will also focus on reading transliterated Sanskrit, which will support our journey into our chanting practice. This session will inspire you to keep the Sanskrit language alive for yourself and your students. See Rachel's full list of workshop topics in her bio below.

Rachel Nokes

Immerse & learn

Yoga Teacher, Yoga Therapist, Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant and Professional Counsellor. Founder, Owner and Principal Yoga Teacher of Ray of Light.

I love to gather and connect. There's nothing I cherish more than hosting folks to co-create a divine mood, exploring ways to express love and sweet union with the earth and each other. This practice reminds us that we are all family, we are one. I believe we all hold the key to freedom within our system. My commitment to myself and to you is to play and dance our way there through breath-centric movement, mantra, and ritual.

Devoted to exploring the yogic tradition, I continuously test and integrate the wisdom the ancients have lovingly shared with us. As a forever student, I weave yogic philosophy, real-life storytelling, and chanting into the yoga practice. With a background in counseling, I help others find harmony between mind, body, and spirit.

I'm humbled by the generosity of my teachers who have led the way, and I bow to them in reverence. I am happiest when surrounded by friends, chanting sacred sounds, walking barefoot, feeling salt in my hair, and sand between my toes. In holding space, I'll guide you to the heart of yourself. It's there that the inner teacher resides, and through this deep communion within yourself, true freedom is found. I have discovered my life’s purpose, and I would love to inspire you to find yours.

During Rachel's sessions, you'll explore:

  • Mantra in movement, pranayama and meditation

  • Sacred and safe space holding

  • Philosophy - Patanjali yoga sūtras- the obstacles and the sadhana solutions

  • A playful way to learn the Sanskrit alphabet

  • Reading transliterated sanskrit

  • Crafting your offerings beyond the yoga class formatt

  • Nāda yoga and vocal for increased resonance

  • The therapeutic use of sound to work with the energy body

Each of these areas will be delved into deeply, offering you practical tools, profound insights, and transformative experiences to enhance both your personal practice and your teaching skills.

Flo shares her vision and reason for sharing this retreat (3 minute video)

Flo has been practising yoga since 1991, and teaching since 1997. She is a senior yoga teacher, teacher trainer and yoga therapist, based in Byron Bay where she has run classes, yoga therapy sessions, workshops teacher trainings and retreats for over 25 years. From 2000 to 2018, Flo was a frequent contributor to Australian Yoga Life Magazine.

Trained by masters of Iyengar, Ashtanga, Satyananda and Viniyoga traditions, Flo's focus in the classroom is on finding our natural ease within the postures, and on cultivating an ever-deepening awareness of the relationship between the body, the breath, and our state of mind. Flo has always had an interest in yoga as healing-coming from her own background of both physical and emotional instability and having been a skilled massage therapist and practicing homeopath for many years. An experienced yoga therapist she helps us to fine tune the movement of the physical body to improve practice and heal injury. She also works with deeper health issues and mental imbalances.

"Working with the physical body is necessary. It is our tool," she says. "But it is when we access the Prāṇamaya or energy body, that deep healing and transformation can begin. The energy body also offers so much to teachers looking for a new and exciting way of teaching. We can use the prāṇa vāyus, the chakras, the nāḍīs, and prāṇāyāma as a basis for our practice and our teaching, going straight to the source, and giving students a deep insight into how to practice at this subtler level. On this retreat, I want to share with teachers an exploration of the Prāṇamaya (energy body) as a way in which to re-ignite their passion for practice and teaching!"

During Flo's sessions, you'll learn:

  • Ahiṃsā in Teaching and Practice; Injury Prevention, Management and Repair

  • Yoga Nidrā Training

  • How to modify asana and give at the appropriate level to prevent injury.

  • How to design a targeted practice to help manage and improve an injury at any level

  • How to and when to progress to avoid regression

The accomodation

Bali, known as the island of the Gods, is a place of healing. Its beautiful lands, waters, and ethereal atmosphere offer a sanctuary to nourish ourselves with the energy of this sacred place. Bali embodies the essence of beauty, and you can feel the presence of Lakshmi herself here. It holds a special place in the hearts of many, with its vibrant culture, spiritual heritage, lush landscapes and kind people. Bali's expansive beauty has a unique way of opening the heart and feeding the spirit, leaving a long-lasting imprint on all who venture into Her embrace.

North Bali is often likened to Bali from half a century ago, still relatively untouched by tourism. It comprises quaint villages where locals lead predominantly pastoral lives. The non-for-profit retreat centre provides a safe container for deep rest, immersion into the tranquil beauty of Bali and the ignition of your inner wisdom and creative potential. Pantai’s black volcanic sand and pebble beach with its coral banks is an enchanting landscape to decompress, daydream and take walks whilst listening to the song of the great ocean. And with some luck, you’ll spot some dolphins. Star gazing on moonlight swims at our resort’s lotus pool provides the perfect opportunity to unwind with water therapy. Each uniquely designed Balinese-style bungalow is located right on the seafront, providing serene views and quick access to swimming, snorkeling and sunbathing.

testimonials

RN_IndiaPortal9.png

I was particularly impressed by the depth and breadth of your knowledge of yoga, and the excellence of your planning, preparation and presentation of lessons.

I expected to be tired and achy by the end of the week but am pleasantly surprised to feel more energetic and with no aches and pains at all. I'm attributing this partly to the extra time you spent on pranayama and relaxation/meditation compared to other retreats I’ve attended, but also to the way that you sequence your lessons so that the body is very thoroughly prepared before moving into the stronger asanas. A good lesson for me to bring into my own practice!

RN_IndiaPortal9.png

The yoga practices were always relevant to what we were learning. The food and location of the training was exquisite! A lot of care, attention, and love is inbuilt into this training. It has been a transformative experience.

I loved the opportunity not only to learn but being able to have the time to discuss the meanings and thoughts with an amazing teacher.  The discussion throughout the course helped me to understand concepts without being overwhelmed. I learnt so much in how to refine my teaching skills. This course solidified my love for the practice as well as the philosophy of yoga.
